buy home theater system. but am not using it for any kind of video display so I can’t speak to it for that. I’m using it as a sound system for my ipod and computer and it hasn’t let me down. The sound really packs a punch and is really nice if you use the right equalizer to get the proper balance in sound. The only drawback is that it doesn’t put out any sound when using these functions through the center speaker so really its just like having a 4.1 system unless you use it as a surround system for a tv. It goes pretty loud considering i haven’t really gone above 22 volume even though it goes up to 34. The balance is really good, although I tend to like a little more bass in my music, which it offers plenty of. Great system that isn’t too pricey. Would recommend to anyone who wants an easy way to get out of having to use a 2.1 system on a laptop.
Never had Sony product before, now we have not only this Sony Bravia Dav- HDX285, but also bought Sony Bravia 46″ TV with newest model from Costco, 46VL160. Satisfy so far (4 weeks) with the systems. I use Phoenix Gold 6.5 in-ceiling speakers to replace 2 surround sound speakers. I am also satisfied to use the unit for music (CD). Unlike my (cheap) Home Theater In Box that only use 2 front speakers, this unit use 2 front speakers, 2 surround speakers and subwoofer. Using speaker selector box for 4 pair speaker, I connect 4 pair of Phoenix Gold 6.5 in-ceiling speakers to this unit so that if I select all four pair speakers that connected to surround speaker connections to this unit, the unit becomes 10.1 instead of 4.1 for music. And it does not seem loose the sound. I have not use any other feature that this unit provides (since we just moved), but will update when there is something wrong or something right (unexpected pleasant surprise) comes up.
