I tried for a couple of months online, talking to people, go and listen to various speakers in stores. What I need to meet two requirements: 1) satellite / sub setup (to make them “disappear” and have a high WAF – Wife Acceptance Factor), 2) Less than $ 500. I am a true lover of music, but I am not an “audiophile” for not having an ear to understand the technique of some of the comments made on the speakers. However, I can not distinguish what sounds good and what is not. In addition, I need a speaker system primarily for audio, I use my DVD player, a CD player.
I have a Pioneer receiver (110 below), a non-JVC HD DVD Player, a Time Warner Scientific Atlanta HD cable and a 32-inch Sony Bravia 1080i. So, nothing big, but ok for home use. My speakers on the TV are really terrible, so I need a speaker system to improve in this regard, a better use of the receiver, and help listening to stereo music. The “surround” feature was not a priority, given my non-ideal structure.
I went to J and R in New York and heard a few speaker systems (not wanted systems that came with your receiver / dvd set). I listened carefully Bose AM III (very badly, both in high and medium frequency). Plus, that was just below my budget and need something more convenient, as I had to buy wall / ceiling brackets, etc. Then I heard a Klipsch system for $ 699, well beyond my budget, but the sound excellent. Finally, I listened to the Polk RM 6750 and realized that sounded like Klipsch, does not take into account the difference, but noted that the cost, less than half ($ 250).
Polk bought the system on the site. Added some cables (they were better for satellites, and a monster under the cable), the ceiling and two hooks to remove satellites. He had time to understand the connections and wiring at home, but I like the way my children Polk, although for the moment, I installed only the minimum for a stereo sound (two ‘before satellites and sub) .
